Facial aesthetics

We all know ageing is inevitable but in a society obsessed with youth it is only natural to want to look and feel your best. As lines and wrinkles appear and facial contours change, it is not surprising that for many people the passage of time can have an erosive effect on self-esteem and confidence. Whilst in the past many would turn to drastic surgical procedures in order to rejuvenate the face, in recent years non-surgical facial aesthetic techniques have grown massively in popularity.

Dr Callaghan provides a full range of non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques using both botulinum toxins and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.

Anti-wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections using purified botulinum toxin type A, commonly referred to as Botox(R), have been used for more than twenty years in cosmetic procedures and are now the most popular facial aesthetic treatment worldwide. As we get older our skin becomes thinner, collagen levels decrease and facial muscles become more active, all resulting in expressive, or ‘dynamic’ lines on the skin when the muscles contract. Botulinum toxins are ideally suited to the treatment of dynamic lines as they temporarily block nerve impulses to the underlying muscles, relaxing them and therefore reducing the creasing effect on the skin. The treatment is painless and frequently yields dramatic results, with the effect generally lasting from 3-5 months.

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are extremely effective whenever we want to lift wrinkles and folds to smooth their appearance or when restoring lost volume to the face. They are also fantastic for subtly plumping thinning lips, or for gently re-contouring the face, for example by accentuating cheek bones or smoothing jowls.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance which is found naturally in our skin, and which is responsible for maintaining a smooth, plump, hydrated appearance. Like natural hyaluronic acid found within the body, these fillers are gradually broken down over the course of nine to eighteen months, meaning their effect is temporary and periodic ‘top-up’ treatments are required in order to maintain the desired effect.

Often a combination of several facial aesthetic treatments is required in order to obtain the desired result. At the initial consultation Dr Callaghan will carefully listen to all of your expectations and facial ageing concerns in a friendly, relaxed environment, following which your treatment options will be discussed in detail and a tailored treatment plan, designed specifically to target your concerns and achieve your aesthetic goals will be devised.
